Slide Rock Stormy Day

(painting above) oil on canvas panel 10x8 inches

The painting on the right was painted on location just before the rain and hail came. (Posted on May 18th). The one on the left was painted from a photo on my laptop while sitting barefoot in my studio, listening to music and sipping iced tea. I enjoyed both. I'm not sure if one is "better" than the other...just different. What do you think?

  1. Oh gosh...I love them both- wonderful colors and composition in both and they are different. I might have to choose the bottom one done on location and "all the suffering" you endured or were thinking you might endure. What a wonderful insight for us to see both. Thanks for sharing.

  2. The one at the top seems more finished. I'm sure the hail had something to do with that!

  3. Fabulous color Karen. The one in plein air is full of information which you used wonderfully in the studio piece. Both have great qualities.

  4. HI Karen: I have to pick the plein air piece hands down. It really captures the feeling of the place and the drama of the atmosphere. Of course I am a plein air junkie...

  5. I think they both look great and I could never tell that one was plein air and one was a studio painting. Hmmmm, did I just make a case for painting in a/c?

  6. I think they are both great, but I am drawn to the perspective and spontaneity of the plein air painting.
