Little Ballerina
oil 8x6 inches
not for sale
This is our little granddaughter, Emily. I thought this pose was so precious; that moment when she's feeling a bit tentative and at the same time focused on her teacher. Getting a likeness when the face is only one square inch of canvas is darn hard. I needed a one-haired brush. It turned out pretty close. Sorry my posts have been sparse lately. I'm feeling fine, but busy with other things. Tomorrow we celebrate our son and daughter-in-law having earned their college degrees. We're so proud of them! Then next week our Idaho son and family come for a good long visit. I'll paint and post when I can.

Poised to dance. Wonderful
ReplyDeleteI love this and the detail in the face is amazing. I also love the treatment of the background. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and sensitive. I now all about painting faces that are 1 inch tall- I usually end up wanting to scream- but sometimes it works nicely that way as it did here.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is so special. Love how some of her leotard shows through the tutu and how you handled the background. Gorgeous! Can't say enough! Enjoy all of your family activities and congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely Karen.
ReplyDeletewell done Karen! before i saw the size, i took it for a much larger painting. I like everything about it!
ReplyDeleteIt's really lovely!
ReplyDeleteI also like the way you handled the background - nice green and umber.
I'm sure Emily must be thrilled to see this!
She'll love this painting no doubt. Now and perhaps even more when she's older. Marvelous.
ReplyDeleteLove your work, Karen.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful piece to hold your place until you return...it's precious!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful little lady, Karen. She will grow up loving this.
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job for such a small size - it comes across larger
Hope the family visit went well.
