In Progress

I've started this 16x20 still life. I spent several hours working on the set up which includes objects I've used in previous small paintings. The analogous and muted color appeals to me first, along with the nostalgic feeling. After laying it out on canvas, I decided it was too heavy on the left, so I removed the painting with the yellow flowers. I would have had to tone down the yellow anyway. The fact that I've painted each object before is reassuring. Hoping I can pull it all together in a cohesive piece. Sorry about the glare. I haven't figured out how to shoot pictures in my little studio without glare. Today I'm off to the Norton Simon Museum with some friends. Field Trip! Woo-hoo! No buses, no name tags!

  2. The most difficult part I find to a painting, is the setting up. Looking forward to seeing this one in progress? What colour background have you used?

  7. Will follow the painting's progress with much anticipation. Lucky you to visit Norton Simon Museum. I went there when I attended Dreama and Leslie's first class together in Pasadena. It is a fabulous museum.

  9. I am still following your blog! I am in a bit of a transition time, coming out of a busy Christmas season, and going into a time of teaching art and gearing up for shows. I can't tell you how inspiring this painting you are about to start is! I love this stage, the anticipation of what it will be. Thanks for posting this!
