Geraniums & Glass

oil 10x8 inches not for sale at this time Finally, here's the first piece I did on Arches oil paper. Pictured below is how it looked before I wiped out the drapery several times. The paper took a beating and held up well. Still, the paint seems to die into the paper. After four paintings, going back to canvas sounds pretty good.
Unfinished stage. I masked the edges with tape before painting. Makes a nice "matted" look.

  1. Well, that was an interesting experiment (with the Arches paper). Now I won't have to try it! I go back and forth between preferring canvas or panel.
I think your drape is lovely and really enhances the painting. If I may make one small criticism, though, it bothers me that the table lifts on the left side (probably because the drape was higher there in the original version. Don't know about you, but I often don't see one feature. because I'm looking at others. I appreciate it when somebody points it out (as I hope you do as well).

  2. Layne, I appreciate your comment very much. I did see that the table curved up on the left. I tried to correct it but somehow it didn't work. I was SO ready to be done with it, I just left it! Maybe down the road I'll do some more fixing. I really do appreciate critique and suggestions. Thanks so much.

  3. Une composition très intéressante... Tout est réuni en difficultés pour un travail extraordinaire...
Il est bon de souligner parfois les remarques qui nous permettent d'avancer. Mais ma chère vous avancer rudement bien vous !
    Gros bisous

  4. I love this composition, elegant yet simple. I have something very similar set up (with the tall green bottle and the little bluebird of happiness) but I wasn't confident on how to paint the little bluebird. Your painting may have been just the "lesson" I needed.
