Rose Arbor

oil 12x9 inches click for purchase information and zoom Painted in the studio from a photo reference taken at Descanso Gardens near Pasadena. I think I'm getting hooked on oil ground. I've been applying it to my gallery wrapped canvases, and also some of my Raymar panels. Rather than destroy "failed" paintings, I sand them a bit and apply oil ground. Now I have a wonderful surface with some texture to start over on. Almost feels like free panels! This one was done on one of those reused panels. The paint just glides on.

  1. Love the shadows on the wall Karen. Will have to try some oil ground on some of my old paintings. What brand do you recommend? Thanks!

  2. Bonjour,
Une manière de bien nourrir sa toile...
Le résultat de cette dernière oeuvre est sublime et "parfumé"...
Une très belle lumière illumine cette peinture très estivale.
    Gros bisous

  4. Thanks for your comments. I appreciate each one very much. Dana, I've used Gamblin and Utrect. Both about the same. Got a great sale price on the Utrect. Start with a small can. It will go a long way. Application takes practice. I thin with a brush dipped in turp as I go. Wear a mask when you sand. Move your beach cruiser before you paint so you don't get splatter on it. :-) !
