Camellias -sold

oil on canvas panel 6x6 inches
Flowers are a real challenge. Pink flowers in particular seem to have a glowy pink that doesn't come in a paint tube. For this one I tried quinacrodone red and radiant magenta. I liked the dark burnt umber stems contrasting with the pinks.

  1. Karen,
These look great! I have several camellia bushes in my back yard and one of them looks just like this! Very pretty. You did a wonderful job on the pinks. I also like that stem- very believable. Hope you all have a wonderful 2011 and your husband continues to be well!

  2. Lovely, Karen! I love the various shades of pin your achieved in your camellias, and the depth of the greens in the leaves. And I like your choice of the pale background. I think it makes the flowers really stand out. Very nice!

  3. Thanks for your comments, ladies! I am certainly not an expert flower painter (yet!) and your comments are very encouraging. Thanks a bunch!
