Blue Plate Tomatoes -sold

oil on canvas panel 6x6 inches
This is the second in a recent mini-series of tomato paintings. Red and blue are complements on the Munsel color wheel, which explains this painting and the previous. I liked the reflected red in the blue trim, and the scattered bits of dried stem material seemed to give it a natural, not-so- staged look.

  1. Lovely composition. I agree with you... I like the reflected red in the blue rim of the plate! So nice!

  2. This is pleasing in so many ways, Karen. I love the composition. The circles within a circle seem very serene to me. You have wonderful brushstrokes on the tomatoes. Each stroke seems deliberately applied. Great values. Beautiful painting.
