Not So White- DPW Challenge

oil on canvas panel 6x6 inches
The Daily Paintworks challenge this week is to paint a white object sitting on patterned fabric with the resulting reflected color. In addition, no earth colors may be used...just the primaries and white. I learned I could mix yellow ochre easily, but I did miss burnt umber for making a quick rich black. The challenge, while about reflected color poses another challenge: draw the pattern receding in space so the object appears sitting on a horizontal plane.

  1. Wow, Karen, this turned out so great - you could do a whole series of reflections on white objects with a patterned background.

  2. Karen,
This is seriously good! Love the white cup and all the wonderful reflections in it. You chose well with the fabric and love that it is downsized in the reflected image as it would be. See, seriously good:) Yes also on the horizontal plane. Well done!! All of it:)

  5. Love your answer to the challenge! Like the way you made the cloth recede by making the pattern blur out. Very good!
