Ginger Jar

oil 8x8 inches magnify/purchase I don't know anything about ginger jars, but I like the shape and the blue. Part of my "on a ledge" series. The yellow is a bit more subtle in person...kinda buttery. Yum.

  1. Bonjour chère amie,

J'aime beaucoup la forme de ce pot, il est très original et vous lui rendez un bel hommage !
Vous avez magnifiquement bien travaillé la lumière et les ombres. C'est une superbe nature morte.

    Gros bisous ♡

  2. Love your work and am learning so much about brushwork, compositions, color, etc just by studying your incredible paintings.

  3. I am really enjoying your ledge series and the primary color theme. Love the beautifully painted ginger jar but really like the ceramic cup hiding in the shadows.

    1. That ceramic cup is the one part I had to wipe out and paint over! Good to hear, Carol. I guess it was worth it. :-)

  4. Another great ledge painting. The colours here work so well...you achieved the gold on the ginger jar in such a subtle way, and the bits of yellow peaking through everywhere bring it all together. Would you mind telling us your colour palette here Karen?

    1. Thanks, Catherine. I used mostly cad yellow light, cad red light, ultramarine blue and Twhite. The cup in shadow has thalo blue. The pom has alizarin and a touch of quinacrodone rose. I mix my own yellow ochre with the three primaries above and that gives me a range of muted and darkened yellows for the gold.
