This is our napkin basket of old.  Remember the days of basket parties?  I very much enjoy conveying  the weave of natural materials without using a teeny tiny paintbrush to make an exact representation.  My goal is to say "basket" in a painterly way, not a photographic way.

Painted last fall, these are heirloom apples from our backyard tree.  Also pictured is my favorite little basket to paint.  In some of my previous paintings it has held peaches, eggs, and now apples.  When the basket is not posing in my studio, it often holds freshly fried tortilla strips for dipping into our home grown guacamole.  Yum!

oil 12X12 inches For a closer look and purchase info click here. A friend gave me these lovely eggs from her backyard chickens so I could paint them. I added a couple of white ones. I worked on this piece over three sittings and enjoyed every minute. I wish you could see it in person. The camera did not pick up the color shifts in the eggs as subtly as they are conveyed in the painting. A serene piece that I'm very happy with. Thank you, Sandra Sue for sharing your eggs with me.

oil 6x12 inches To get a closer look or purchase info click here. Oranges and lemons from our backyard trees. Our ten year old granddaughter, Emily, was painting nearby as I worked on this painting. About an hour in we exchanged reports on how our paintings were going. I told her I wasn't sure and might have to wipe it off, but that I was trying to do what I have told my watercolor students, "just keep going." "Yeah," Emily said, "just keep swimming." (Disney) Good advice. Sometimes we can throw in the towel too soon. I'm happy with the result.
