Last August I enjoyed painting this sweet little gem while sitting in my friend's gallery, Studio C in Claremont.  I painted a series of small still life with items I carried in from home each day.  This is my favorite.  The framing on this piece is classy looking: finely finished burgundy/black with a gold lip.  Ready to hang where you have a small space that needs a fine looking pop of color.

Years ago I had the pleasure of singing for several years in an acapella choir.  That's a choir of voices only-no instuments to accompany the voices.  In order to stay on pitch, the director taught us to listen to the men singing bass. I sang alto but then got switched to soprano.  In other words, I was a peach, then became a cherry.  I wish you could see this painting in person.

Still Life & Little Bird

oil 8x8 inches Purchase info here. This is a demonstration piece I did for a workshop back in January. I love this tiny ceramic bird. Years ago friends and I took a mosaic workshop and I quickly discovered that snapping ceramic tiles into little pieces with a hand tool was not for me. It was a fun day nevertheless, and I happened to come home that day with this little bird. It has found a place in many of my paintings since.

Juicy, Big And Little

oil 10x10 Purchase info here. I reworked this painting from September. I don't often go back into a dry painting, but here I think it was successful. The surface color was too orange. The added grapes give it some small dark shapes, and the cooler, neutral surface and background are more harmonious with the fruit. What do you think? Here's the original version:

Fruit & Wine

oil 8x8 inches. Purchase info here. In these small still life paintings I like to have objects (or their shadows) go off the edges. This divides the negative space nicely resulting in different sizes and shapes. Often, I use a wine bottle to take the scene off the top. You might think I drink a lot of wine! No, I just find the bottles useful and pretty. Here's a painting that has a variety of fresh color and high value contrast. I'm quite happy with this one. I hope you like it.

Fruit On Silver

Summer Fruit -SOLD

oil 8x8 inches Purchase info here. Here are a couple of my favorite things to paint; light shining through oranges and juicy ripe strawberries. It has been a rough few months for me with a reoccurring illness. I've been able to paint in between when up to it. I'm still not out of the woods, but hopeful. Meanwhile, some very GOOD news! My painting "Bloom & Sparkle" is on it's way to Fish Creek Wisconsin for The American Impressionist Society's National Exhibit. I feel very grateful to be included. Peninsula School Of Art, Fish Creek Wisconsin, Sept.27-Oct.28th. Also recently Associated Artists of The Inland Empire awarded me Best of Show in their Annual Fall Juried Show! More details on that in my next post.

Music, food and friendly folks made for a pleasant painting atmosphere. I think that feeling came through in the painting. Demo For The High Desert

UPCOMING EVENTS: BALBOA ISLAND ART WALK MAY 20! One hundred artists along the seawall on South Bayfront! This will be my fifth year to participate in the BEST ART WALK IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA! I hope you'll plan to attend. You can find me near Pearl St. and the fuel dock as you turn left stepping off the ferry. I'll have 20 linear feet of framed paintings on display, and about a hundred loose paintings. Come enjoy the music, art and sunshine!

Demo In Tarzana and a special commission

It started with a demonstration in Tarzana with an enthusiastic crowd, expert camera and lighting, and the coordinator even treated me to dinner between setup and demo! I don't usually take commissions, but early in the year I accepted a commission from the Caballero Family to paint property that has been in their family for generations. The Caballero's granddaughter was in my Kindergarten class quite a few years ago. This land and barn in Chino Hills, CA is now surrounded by houses. It's a precious gem that has been painted many times by myself and others. The painting is 24x36 inches which was good for me, and at Mrs. Caballero's request I added/invented lupine, poppies and sunflowers. Trying to put her memories on canvas and create a family heirloom, I felt very blessed to be able to do it.

Tea & Oranges
