Sunflower In Blue-sold

oil on canvas panel 6x6 inches
This indigo blue cup is one of my favorites for staging reflections. The orangy-yellow flower and deep blue made a strong complementary color scheme. A bit of impasto helps convey the light on flower petals. When I photographed the painting, I ended up with little shadows where the paint is thick.

  1. Karen, I love this one! The indigo mug goes perfectly with that lovely golden sunflower. Beautifully painted!

  2. Hi Karen, Just want you to know that I love your blog, Your paintings are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Really nice painting, Karen. The sunflower is beautifully executed, with the depth of the flower center against the light on the petals. Really nice values. I like the bits of yellow reflections on the cup, too.

  4. Beautiful Karen. Love the reflection of the flower on the mug. Really like your salt and pepper paintings too. I am a little behind on looking at blogs.

  5. Karen - I love this one - the sunflower is so great. The reflection is nice too.
