Head Study
oil on linen panel 12x9 inches
Three weeks ago I began studying figure painting again with Joseph Todorovitch on Tuesday nights. Up until now I had used only the Zorn palette: yellow orchre, black, cad red medium and T. white. Exploring new color mixtures was a big challenge...to be honest, I felt lost! Most important is a clear depiction of light and shadow, so I gave special attention to the large shapes of light and shadow.

Fabulous. More!
ReplyDeleteNice job on the skin tones. Very nice. Love your tube paintings as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is so nice. What colors did you use on your palette w/this? I dropped yellow ochre and black after taking a workshop with Carol Marine. Interestingly, I haven't missed them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments everyone. Stephanie, I would miss yellow ochre! I use it a lot. For this head study I used Aliz. Perm., Yellow Ochre, Naples Yellow, Ult.Blue, and T.White. But I'm at the experimentation stage, so I can't recommend anything...I don't know enough yet!
