The is the last of my Eat Your Veggies series.  I painted these last October, so basically I paint faster than I post on my blog!  If you would like to see what I'm currently painting on a regular basis, please follow me on Instagram.  Last week I spent the week planting a veggie garden.  We had wonderful warm sunshine, so I did some digging and tilling, and sowing of seeds and seedlings: tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, pole beans, zuccini, carrots, and cucumbers.  This week we have cold rain and even a bit of tiny hail yesterday.  Good for the garden!  In a rainstorm I thank God for being able to paint still life in my cozy studio.  What do you enjoy doing during a rainstorm?

The second in my Eat Your Veggies series.  This one was so much fun!  My favorite part of this painting is the onion.  I buy the large sweet onions.  They have such pretty color and mild flavor. I enjoy the challenge of painting something intricate such as the kernels of corn in a way that suggests, rather than each kernel tightly perfect. Design-wise, this painting has a variety of sizes and shapes.  Many vegetables and fruits are round, so for good design I always try to include line: the edges of the white cloth, the green onion, and the corn cob.  This painting is ready to hang.

This painting is part of my short series titled "Eat Your Veggies."  One sold in the exhibit I painted them for.  There are three available for purchase.  The paintings are on cradled wood panel and framed.  I very much enjoyed the smooth surface.  My favorite part of this piece is the purple rubber band.  Does this make you want to eat some veggies, or make some vegetable soup?

Debbie's Bowl -a still life painting in oil

oil 6x6 inches magnify/purchase info A great group of enthusiastic ladies joined me for my weekend workshop. I guess I was having too much fun to take pictures! Here's one of the demos I did for them. I painted about twice as fast as I normally do so they'd have more time to paint. No time to fuss over this one, resulting in fresh, chunky strokes. Tonight I'm off to demonstrate for the Tustin Art League.

Sunflower In Turquoise -a still life painting in oil -SOLD

oil 10x8 inches magnify/purchase Artwork was coming down from the walls as I furiously tried to finish this piece. I got the objects in and finished the rest at home the next day. Turquoise is such a great color. Might have to paint this little pitcher again sometime.

Pepper Dance

Yellow Pepper

Back to my series of "one thing on a small canvas". I don't think I've painted a pepper before. The shapes reminded me of painting pumpkins and gourds. The light was glowing through the back wall which made parts of the inside in shadow and other parts glowing....really tricky. The stem is my favorite part.

Pea Pods & Peppers

Color is the attraction here. Deliberate strokes and some soft edges give it the fresh look I was hoping for. I love the yellow-orange and red against the thalo blue. In the foreground I warmed up the thalo and white with some cad yellow medium.

I took a little break from painting and posting to celebrate Easter. It was great family time, especially this year as we had relatives visiting from out of town. I painted this before my break, and now I see the blue is absolutely obnoxious! Perhaps this painting has finally gotten all the attraction to thalo blue out of my system. Later I may try a similar one with another more civilized background color. It was good practice painting a jar its distortions.

Peppers are a popular subject, as you might imagine, because of their beautiful color. I liked the lines of shadow created by the stems and the little dark shadows near the pepper edges. I chose the blue thinking Munsell color wheel. This gave it Southwest look I think. A fun little painting to do.
