Jerome's Finest

Last spring while driving around Jerome, Arizona with my good friend Martha we spotted this old police car. Jerome is an old mountainside mining town near Sedona, Arizona...and a painter's paradise of junk. The focal point is that red light of course, but I do love the pink structure and the "Ben&Jerry's sky." My paintings are loosening up, which makes me really happy. A few years ago someone looked at my photo realistic watercolors and said, (and I quote), "Once you paint like that you can never loosen up." How irritating!

You have really captured the look of Jerome in just one painting Karen...great loose job! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pink garage! Also all the pink of the underpainting showing in lots of places. Well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat view of Jerome. You show the houses on the hillside very well. My hubby was born there back when it was a thriving mining town.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting to how you want to paint, Karen. I know I like your paintings a lot.
This is a fantastic painting. I really love the pink house, it kind of steals the show from the awesome car! And I do notice your paintings loosening up, they're getting so much character. :)
ReplyDeleteReally beautifully done. I love the loose painting, but also the composition, it keeps my eyes going around and seeing new details each time. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThis is another really nice painting, Karen. I love the variety of your subject matter (and, of course, your looseness!) Glad you are happy with the way it's going.
ReplyDeleteGreat painting!!!
ReplyDeleteKaren your paintings just keep getting better and better all the time. And there is nothing you can't paint beautifully! I look forward to seeing your paintings each day.
