oil on canvas panel 6x6 inches
The Daily Paintworks Challenge for this week is about balance. The entries so far are towers of cups and other objects. Since I only used two cups, I hope this still qualifies. My aim here is more about dominance than balance: dominantly neutral color with a pop of saturated red, dominantly curvy shapes with a few straight lines. Barely spared from the wipe-off in the beginning, the reflective whites and shiny surfaces made it a challenging exercise in values...come to think of it, just about every painting is an exercise in values!
What a gorgeous painting! I LOVE that this is how you interpreted balance, it is perfect. You hit everything you were aiming for. :) That shine is just perfect. Glad I found your blog.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! This is great, Karen. Love the cool greys.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful work of values and a dynamic painting. Love the pop of red but really like the warms and cools inside that cup. Masterful!!
ReplyDeleteKaren besides being a beautiful painter, your compositions really stand out as so strong...this is a perfect example of that!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteVery nice balances in all that you've mentioned, Karen! Wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteThe cherry makes it but the cups are stunning.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love your loose brush strokes in this. Beautiful reflective surfaces, too.
