Striped & Glazed -SOLD

oil on canvas panel 6x6 inches
Sometimes figuring out what to paint takes a while. I fiddled around with different stuff 'till I gave up and went back to my first thought, a donut. I drove to the donut store. Maybe subconsciously I just wanted to eat one, but after I got that out of the way painting one seemed right. The striped napkin adds color, line and interest as the stripes go in and out of shadow. It just so happens that tomorrow is "National Donut Day." No kidding. Maybe another trip to the donut store!

  1. I don't think I'd have the patience to paint all those stripes! It's quite effective though, so I'm glad you did it. Nice job on the donut too!

  2. National Donut Day? As one of the participants of the Donut War, I didn't know this Karen. Where oh where is the Contessa?

And this glazed goodness is so scrumptious! Love everything about it!

  4. Susan, I've salivated over your donut paintings for sure! About National Donut Day, as my husband ate my subject matter he just happened to be watching a show on TV with Huell Houser, "California's Gold". Huell was visiting donut shops in honor of National Donut Day. Weird how things come together sometimes!

  5. Love this! From the fun title to the composition with the doughnut on stripes to the fact that there is a National Doughnut Day?...Too much fun for sure. Gorgeous brushwork on the doughnut. Love the glazing effect. Shadows in the stripes are the best. And...you got to eat a doughnut first:)
